My parents immigrated from China to the United States. They shared about their struggles and their gratitude for the opportunities to obtain their American Dream. I love the ethos of our American Dream, where every person has the freedom and opportunity to succeed and attain a better life. The emphasis on democracy, liberty, and equality is what can draw us together.

The first 22 years of my life were spent at 7 Sea’s Chinese Restaurant, a small business with nine tables, located in East Tacoma. My parents created a place where people felt like they were coming home for a meal. To this day, people will come up and let us know about the memories their families created there, connections they made with our family, sense of humor my parents had, and, for the adults, fondness they had while watching my sister and I do our homework in the corner.

For almost 30 years, I have applied my parent’s “mom and pop” approach to how I show up, where I was seen as a leader throughout my career. I respect everyone, build a connection with those I’m working with, listen to all perspectives, work together to formulate the necessary outcomes to reach our goals, and evaluate the process while adjusting things when needed. This has led to the earned trust from my peers, where some will see me as the “Go to” to discuss how to create solutions.

My parents modeled the value of serving their new community. Serving others is a part of who I am. I made a professional career out of it through serving patients, promoting civic engagement, and cultivating leaders who advance the common good as the CEO at the Center for Ethical Leadership. There, I provide both the vision and strategic direction for CEL and our clients, as the principal consultant.

I am a listener, collaborator, and a leader. I’ll work with Lakewoodians to feel safe, create economic growth, and support small businesses. I offer my ability to work with the other Councilmembers, City staff, stakeholders, and Lakewood leaders to strategically guide our city to build a connected and interactive community. A City where we work together to find solutions for the social, environmental, and economical issues that impact Lakewood neighbors. I have heard neighbors say that they want to be and build a healthy and vibrant community, where we can play, work, and raise families! Let’s get this done!

My ask: A vote for Alice Fong to serve Lakewood as your next City Councilmember!

With gratitude,

Alice Fong ðŸ™‚
